Crystal Palace overlaps many Boroughs, including Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Southwark. It is bordered by Sydenham, West Dulwich, West Norwood, Thornton Heath, Streatham, and Croydon. 

Since the opening of the Overground services at Crystal Palace, the area has reinvented itself and is now seen by many as fantastic area to live for young professionals and families with excellent transport facilities and Schools. Gone are the McDonald's and typical high street chains, in their place, are more elegant local businesses and restaurants that have helped strengthen the sense of community.

 

Did you know?
  • The Crystal Palace (the structure from which the area got its name) was a cast-iron and plate-glass building originally in Hyde Park, however was moved to what is now known as Crystal Palace Park. The Crystal Palace exhibition building was home to Crystal Palace School of Art, Science, and Literature and Crystal Palace School of Engineering between 1854 – 1936, on November 30th 1936 a fire broke out destroying the building.
  • Winston Churchill watched the Crystal Palace burn down along with 100,000 other people. He was recorded saying "This is the end of an age".
  • The Crystal Palace Transmitter, at 219 metres tall, is the fourth tallest structure in London.  
  • The Italian Job has a scene filmed at the athletics track in the Crystal Palace sports centre, in which Michael Caine says, "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off".
  • The FA Cup Final was hosted at the Palace sports stadium between 1895 and 1914.

Dinosaurs – Find the large dinosaur sculptures located in Crystal Palace Park, unveiled in 1854 and they are Grade I listed monuments. It is a great day out for children and adults alike

Crystal Palace Museum – Learn about the varied history of the famous Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace National Sports centre – This listed building was opened as a leisure centre in 1964 and is set within 200 acres of Parkland, now taken over by Better leisure centre

Crystal Palace Football Club – Premier League Football club, also known as ‘the Eagles’

Crystal Palace has a few well loved independent shops, including Love Bridal Dresses, Crystal Palace Antiques, Crow On The Hill Bookseller, and Crystal Palace Reptiles. There is a Sainsbury's located in Crystal Palace as well as Haynes Lane Farmers Market which is open daily.

Properties

Crystal Palace Park is surrounded by Grand Victorian villas and Mansion houses. Many of these have been converted into apartments. The housing stock in the area is mostly Victorian terrace houses, 1930-1960 houses, flats, and modern apartments. The most sought-after parts of Crystal Palace include the Triangle, Belvedere road and Fox hill. Further afield from central Crystal Palace there is the Dulwich wood estate, Church Road, Upper Norwood recreational grounds and surrounding houses.
